Driver Crashes into Homeowners’ Carport and then Flees the Scene

At approximately 4:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, Lubbock Police received a call of a hit and run in which the driver fled the scene after crashing a pickup truck into a carport in front of a home in the 2700 block of East 3rd street.

The homeowners shared that they woke up to the loud crash, at first thinking it was thunder. When they walked outside, they found a dark colored four-door pickup truck had struck their mailbox, fence and had crashed into their carport.

The key was left in the ignition and the music was still blaring, however the driver was nowhere to be found.

A neighbor from down the street made the call to 9-1-1. The pickup was towed and the Lubbock Fire Department also responded to the scene to assist in stabilizing the carport structure.

The homeowners shared that they have lived in their home for 40 years and that nothing like the crash has ever happened to them in their time in the neighborhood. They said they feel lucky to be unharmed, especially since the truck was stopped just a few feet in front of the house.

Lubbock Police have described the pickup truck as a dark, 2007 Ford F150. The suspect was able to flee the scene before anyone was able to make out a description of them.
