Volunteer fire crews across West Texas have worked overtime this season to keep up with day-to-day fire danger.
“We’ve seen an increase in our call volume compared to last year. It has almost doubled. It’s been putting a strain on all of our departments out here,” Capt. Kevin Henricks with the West Carlisle Department said.
Henricks said from house fires to grass fires, they have seen it all this winter.
“We’ve seen a lot of house fires, and usually with cold, we hardly get any. But, we’ve had no moisture so that could be a contributing factor to it,” Henricks said.
The best thing the public out in the county can do, he said, is to be fire cautious.
“Keep an eye on your outdoor burning and use common sense make sure you have a hose. If it does get out of hand, call the fire department right away,” Henricks said.
