Family of Slain Lubbock Man Wants Answers from Witnesses

As Lubbock Police continue to investigate the homicide case of 43-year-old Raymond Lockett, his family has asked witnesses from the shooting to come forward in hopes of getting closure on his death.

“I can’t accept that he’s gone because he’s not going to be there to protect me,” Lockett’s mother Catherine Mitchell said. “It’ll be hard for me to go ever go out again.”

Police reports stated Lockett was dropped off with a gunshot wound at Covenant’s Emergency Center on January 20 around 3 a.m. He died from those injuries later that morning.

Another man, who drove himself to the same ER, also entered with a gunshot wound. He is expected to recover.

“It’s like a puzzle, one you get all your pieces together it’ll be done,” Lockett’s sister Tina Williams said. “But there are some people out there that are holding pieces from us.”

Williams said she learned of Lockett’s injuries on a phone call from her sister. She said her brother’s death was shocking and devastating news to the entire family.

“I’m getting married in March and Raymond was supposed to give me away.,” Williams said. “I’m not understanding how I can go from sitting there talking to my brother Wednesday to sitting here talking to people about a funeral service.”

Police said the shooting happened on East 4th Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard, in the parking lot of Club Snow. Club officials told EverythingLubbock.com their business was closed at the time of the incident.

As Lockett’s family make arrangements for his funeral, they said the mystery of his death continues to haunt them. They are asking for any witnesses to come forward in hopes of getting closure.

“Think about how his mom is, how his kids are going to be,” Williams said. “Just think about if the shoe was on the other foot or you would somebody to come in and say, ‘Well look, I don’t know how much this will help but I saw this, or I was there, or he was a cool dude and I just want justice for him.'”

“You just have to go on but right now, I’m just cold,” Mitchell said. “I just think about the family and think about what a mother is going through. It’s hard.”
