The Family Promise of Lubbock is starting a new way to help homeless families with children with a new After-Care program. The program expected to help maintain Family Promise’s 93-96% success rate.

“After they get housing we just don’t leave them,” said Doug Morris, Family Promise of Lubbock’s Executive Director, “They come back once a month and they meet with staff and they meet with volunteers.”

Family Promise has helped the homeless community for 20 years.

“We provide food, shelter, anything that they need,” said Morris, “Start finding a job, working, saving some money, we get their kids into childcare.”

The transitional program tries getting families back on their feet and with the After-Care program they’ll be able to maintain connections.

“They’re paying their utitlities, they’re buying clothes, they’re buying furniture, they’re buying food, paying taxes. They’re integrated in the community, rather than being lost souls as a homeless family,” Morris explains.

Morris said they’ve always followed up with their families that graduate, but not in this organized way.

The families will be able to get advice on any problems financially or just in general.
