Friday was a special day for Nexstar employees as they celebrated the company’s 22nd anniversary. Employees of KLBK and KAMC could be found all over town helping several good causes.
“They’ve been doing a great job,” said Daniel Andrews, operational manager at South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. “It’s programs like this that can really make a difference.”
Helping out in the community is how the stations celebrated its Day of Caring. Employees put in hours at several organizations that could use a few helping hands.
“I mean it definitely feels like knowing that we’re doing something good in the community and helping out people who help out so many others,” said Elizabeth Hale, KLBK co-host of Trends and Friends.
The newsrooms split into small groups to tackle each of these great causes including South Plains Wildlife Rehab Center, Refuge Services, Canyon Lake cleanup and Lubbock Impact.
Lubbock Impact Executive Director Rory Thomas said service is what Lubbock is all about.
“The people here are enthusiastic, they already knew about Lubbock Impact, and you can tell that they care about Lubbock, Texas, because we do, too,” said Thomas.
It wasn’t a typical day for reporters, anchors and behind-the-scenes staff as they were scrubbing cages, picking up trash, mucking stalls, and folding lots of sheets. However, it was all worth it in the end as it was their way of saying thank you to a community that means so much to them.
“People see us on TV five days a week, but we want them to know that we are out in the community helping,” said Hale. “We love Lubbock, it’s not just about being on the news, we love this city and we are so, so proud of it.”
