On Friday, creativity is taking over Downtown Lubbock with the Hearing the Homeless group featuring their first installation during the First Friday Art Trail.
The workshop and murals will be in the Ice House building and most of the art is created by the homeless themselves.
According to their website, the non-profit’s mission is to create an environment that humanizes the homeless and they hope this workshop will inspire those who come by.
“I want them to leave with a sense of hope,” said Hannah Wilhite, the director of operations for the Hearing the Homeless, “A sense of understanding and empathy and to leave here and to experience a person who was homeless and to not treat them differently. To not be afraid of them or to not be disgusted by them, but to instead see them as a human being.”
