Former Staff Sergeant Cody Leake served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 10 years, sacrificing so much for our freedom. After facing financial struggles and service-related disabilities, Thursday he and his son received a deserving gift.

“It exceeded even my expectations, I mean, it’s gorgeous. I would have been happy with anything, to be honest with you. But this is beyond my wildest dreams,” said Cody Leake, hero recipient.

Leake described his new home in one word: a blessing.

“I’m starting to run out of words to describe it at this point, but you know, this is a gift, that I mean… a mortgage-free home. It allows you to do so many more things,” said Leake.

The West Texas Home Builders Association and Homes for Heroes put multiple hours into designing the house.

“You can obviously tell the hard work, and obviously there were a lot of people behind the scenes that have worked very hard to make this happen. it’s hard to thank everyone,” Leake said.

Since retiring from the Marines, Leake decided to help his fellow veterans by dedicating his life to counsel other veterans who face similar problems.

“This right here says it all, for individuals to give such a great gift to me and my son makes all those years and hard sacrifice and everything. Not just for me, but for all veterans, it’s just such an amazing gift. I hope that this continues throughout out community,” said Leake.

The following is a news release from the West Texas Builders Association:

LUBBOCK – The West Texas Home Builders Association via their 501c3 Lubbock Homes for Heroes will host the house reveal and key ceremony for new recipient, Cody Leake, this Thursday, April 19th at 10:00 a.m. at 2104 101st Street in the FoxRidge Subdivision.

Having faced severe financial struggles from service-related disabilities following his 10 years of service in the United States Marine Corps, Staff Sergeant Leake has been eagerly awaiting this day when he and his son move into their new home. “I am so grateful for this blessing my son and I have received. This home will provide us with more than we could dream. I can’t thank the WTHBA and Homes for Heroes enough,” said Leake.

Homes for Heroes and the WTHBA take care of returning military and first responders who have sacrificed so much for our freedom by providing mortgage free homes to disabled heroes and their families in the Lubbock area.

Lubbock Homes for Heroes President, Mitchell Anderson is proud to award another veteran with a new home. “This home was previously given to Christopher R. Montez, Sergeant, USMC (ret) after he was wounded in 2004.  Christopher sadly passed away last year. His estate graciously gave his home back to Lubbock Homes for Heroes, so that we could bless another deserving veteran with the gift of a mortgage free home. After some renovations to the home we are excited to be able to gift this home to another deserving veteran.”

Guest speakers include Mayor Dan Pope and Colonel Dave Lewis, United States Air Force (retired). The press is welcome and encouraged to attend. Cody Leake’s service to our country is celebrated with keys to his new home at 2104 101st Street on April 19th at 10:00 AM.

Former recipients along with the Board Leadership from Lubbock Homes for Heroes will be present and available for interviews at the event. Learn more about the charity at: http://homesforheroeslubbock.com/
