December 7, 2017 marks 76 years since the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.

“Over 2,000 sailors lost their lives that day. Half was on the USS Arizona when their weapons exploded, and another 200 plus in the Army lost their lives defending Pearl Harbor,” Colonel Dave Lewis, a local USAF veteran, said.

Col. Lewis recently visited the Arizona Memorial site while on a six-day cruise on the USS Nimitz.
He said the cruise was an opportunity for family members of those Navy members on board to experience their everyday life.

“The Navy has a tradition where they call it ‘manning the rails,’ and they put all the sailors in all white and everyone salutes the USS Memorial,” Col. Lewis said.
