On Thursday, the final report of the Imagine Lubbock Together (ILT) steering committee was presented showing the success and failures of the eight key elements they’ve been working on. In 2013, the Imagine Lubbock Together vision and strategic implementation plan was published.

Imagine Lubbock Together is a community wide effort to create a roadmap for the future. Moving forward, the rest of that plan will be taken over by a newly created committee by the city.

“We needed the city to behind those things,” said Chairman of Imagine Lubbock Together, Brice Foster.  “It’s a transition for the input to be used, refreshed from all across the different neighborhoods to have a plan that the city would ultimately adopt as vision of where we ultimately want to be in 2040.”

The new strategic plan created by the city will take over the community planning efforts to define Lubbock’s future.

“It’s important because the future of Lubbock and how successful were going to be is always on the line.  We always have to keep improving to make this a city that people ant to come to and live in,” saida member of East Lubbock Community Alliance, Cathy Pope.

After years of surveys and community involvement, different ideas and projects became a reality.

“Parts of ILT are becoming a reality, buddy holly performing arts center, beautification on the visitor signs that are now a part of Lubbock and our major entry ways,” Foster said.

One specific priority some community members have are equal opportunities for people living in East Lubbock. The city also released an online survey to incorporate more ideas people want to see.

“We want to give everyone the opportunity to access it. forward the link to your friends, your family, your employees, to anyone that you know. Please forward that,” member of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Beth Bridges.
