If you are in the mood to have nightmares for the rest of the week, then the haunted house attraction “Nightmare on 19th Street” may be for you.
“We have patrons who take one look inside and just bolt,” said Stephen Kelley, an actor with Nightmare on 19th Street. “I’ve seen people pee their pants, and grown men leave almost in tears. We love those reactions.”
The haunt has been up and running for the past 12 years as an outlet for those who want something a little spookier around the holiday.
“People had been asking for years, when are we going to have a real haunted house?” said co-owner Wes Nessman. “So we decided to go for it, and at first we only had three.”
Now the attraction boasts four haunted houses: Blood Moon Manor, The Wastelands, Dead Doll Island and Clowntown. Altogether the trail through the haunted houses is more than one mile, and employees with the attraction said they are always adding to the experience.
“We build on the haunt even when it’s open,” said Nessman. “This is our passion, our gym, our hobby and what we love to do.”
Through the years, and several hours a day together, the actors working at Nightmare on 19th Street have become so close they consider each other family. They believe the haunted house gives refuge to kids who consider themselves a little different from the rest.
“Even if you are not blood related, out here you are family,” said Renee Raven, a makeup artist. “No matter how different you may be, we celebrate all differences here, and they become an asset and strength here.”
Nightmare on 19th Street’s 2018 season is open three more nights: Halloween and Nov. 2-3.
