Nearly two years ago, Linda Wilhite disappeared from her west Lubbock home. On Friday, her son appeared in court over charges for killing his mother over money.

“I’d like to get some closure,” said Lonnie Wilhite, Linda’s brother. “I need closure on it.”

Lonnie is still mourning the loss of his sister after police say she was murdered by her own son. He says Linda was not just a sister, but a very close friend.

“Me and my sister were the only two together, we didn’t have anybody else,” said Lonnie. “We went to the grocery store, we went out to eat together, we did almost everything together.”

They were also neighbors, living only three houses down from each other. It wasn’t uncommon for Lonnie to just walk over to her house to just say hi, but all that changed in August 2016 when instead of seeing Linda, he was greeted by a locked door.

“I went down there at night one day to talk to her, and the doors were locked, and I knew something was wrong,” said Lonnie. “We decided to call the police, and then they wouldn’t let us go in there because of all of the blood.”

Police say 47-year-old Kody Climer was angry with his mother for not giving him up to $4,000 of a settlement she received. Lonnie said he still can’t understand how money could cause such a violent reaction.

“I just have to ask why?” said Lonnie. “He has no excuse. Money is no excuse to do something like that.”

Until then, Climer will remain behind bars until his trial date is set.

“I’m glad that he’s behind bars, he doesn’t need to be back on the streets because if he’s killed once, he’ll kill again,” said Lonnie.
