Some call it an eye sore, but the City of Lubbock calls it a hazard.
“Bulky items left for awhile become health issues. They collect diseases and bugs. Plus, when they are left out, it invites more people to leave their bulky items,” Stuart Walker, the code administrator director for the City of Lubbock, said.
Walker said furniture piled up in alleyways, left for someone else to deal with, can cost your neighbor a hefty fine.
“If we have to go and clean it up, we will invoice that property on the cost of the cleanup plus the $150 fee,” Walker said.
The city said if you’re having an issue with your neighbor leaving bulky items behind, call the city and report it.
If you need to drop off your bulky items, City of Lubbock residents can drop items off for free at these locations.
