A fire broke out in Levelland on Tuesday and left the Baeza family asking for donations. The fire destroyed most of their home and killed their pets too.

“I went out to feed the dog, but when I came back I couldn’t get inside. I was filled with smoke,” said Teresa Baeza, the house fire victim.

Her daughter Nancy Ortega was in town visting her parents and she called 911.

“We didn’t know what was on fire, at that point. We just knew something was on fire,” said Ortega, “Luckily, they were not in the house and, like I said, I happened to be here and it didn’t go further than that.”

According to the family, the cause was an electrical shortage and it started a fire that made it’s way to several parts of the house.

Ortega said her mom and dad need help now more than ever.

“They’re pretty much devastated,” Ortega said. “This is their life. This is all they have you know. It’s hard. It’s hard on them.”

Sadly, the fire killed some of their animals along the way. “I couldn’t get anything out. My birds even burned. That’s what I wanted to save the most, but I couldn’t get them out,” said Baeza, “If anyone wants to help me, can you? I need help.”

“We are hoping that we’ll get her some new birds. She loves animals. She’s an animal person. She loves animals,” said Ortega.

They started a GoFundMe you can find here to help the Baeza family the money they need to rebuild their home.
