As the cold front moves through the South Plains, one local pastor wants to make sure no one in town has to worry about keeping warm this winter season.
Richard Long, known as “Pastor Richard,” is also an HVAC technician with MasterTech Heating & Air Conditioning. He shared one day as he was driving back to Lubbock from a job in Midland with his co-worker, that they came up with the idea of volunteering to fix heaters that may be broken or that need repairs free of charge.
“It’s kinda funny because I’ve been praying to God, I’m like, I just really want to do His work full-time. I love doing my air conditioning work, but my heart is in spreading the gospel of Jesus,” said Long.
Long is the pastor of Gospel Life Church, an online church he started last year which already has more than 180,000 members. He invites people to join in on his sermons on their website and at their Facebook page.
He hopes that while out visiting with people who needs his help, that he can also help share a message of faith and love during this season of giving.
“I want them to know Jesus. That’s it. That’s it, and if that requires me fixing their heater to get in their house to do it, then I’ll do it,” said Long. “I just want them to know Jesus, that’s all there is to it.”
