The Lubbock Animal Shelter is seeing a lot of pets finding their forever homes after they had their highest save rate this month. Over 93% of all pets were saved, which is a huge jump from last year’s rate where a little less than 30% were adopted.
“It’s been incredible to see the changes, and it’s something that needed to be done as the euthanasia rate had to change,” said Steven Greene, Director of Lubbock Animal Shelter.
The shelter says they owe their success to a gradual change in management. Kaylee Smith started her job as the Assistant Director this Monday, and while she is proud of their achievements, says there is always more to do.”
“I am very excited to be here, and just so happy to be a part of this organization,” said Smith. “We can always do better in certain areas, and will will as we need to get these pets to places they need to be.”
Smith and Greene are hoping to only increase their save rate by hosting half price adoptions, and ‘Dog of the Day’ sales.
“All of this just gets the animals out of here as living in a shelter can be very stressful,” said Greene. “Every animal deserves to go home for Christmas.”
