LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock aquarium is still years away from completion, but Director Kai Evans says they are just reaching ‘Phase Two’ of development.
“We are ready for the next step, which is the fun part,” Evans said. “We are going to be drawing, and coming up with some of the concepts for the building that we can actually build on.”
The facility is going to be built on three acres of land, multi-level, and include both inside and outside attractions. However, due to the large scope and unique materials needed planning has gone on longer than anticipated.
“I don’t think people understand the difficulty of these projects,” Evans said. “We’re bringing in somethine new to our area, and we are teaching the city how to build things they haven’t built before.”
If everything goes to plan the aquarium will have several different animals including sharks, stingrays, and penguins. Depending on funding, there could be more or less included to this list.
“Everything we do depends on our funding,” Evans said. “We just ask if you really want a great attraction like this in our area to get involved, because it really does take a community to get these great projects in Lubbock.
The Lubbock Aquarium is hosting a fundraiser on April 26th to April 28th for a “Live Shark Encounter”. All of the proceeds go towards building the aquarium, if you are interested in learning more you can do so HERE.
