Following the protest in Charlottesville, Virginia it was announced that another white nationalist protest was planned at Texas A&M on September 11, but the school’s chancellor spoke up Monday afternoon citing concerns that the rally would be a “major security risk.”

Despite the cancellation, the Lubbock BLM Ally Group: Standing on the side of love has planned a counter protest at the Tim Cole Memorial on September 11. Spokesperson, Francesca Di Poppa said they are promoting love and civil rights.

“This isn’t about being a democrat or a republican, or Christian or Non-Christian, this is about making sure that this country remains the United States of America with civil rights, liberty and justice for all,” Di Poppa said.

She said it’s still the early stages of planning but they plan to include Lubbock Police every step of the way to encourage peace and safety. Di Poppa said their hearts are also with the loved ones of 32-year-old Heather Heyer who was killed when a man drove through the crowd of counter protestors in Charlottesville, Virginia.

“It makes me feel worried and afraid and it increases my determination,” Di Poppa said.
