In response to President Trump’s immigration ban, organizers in Lubbock are preparing a peaceful protest for Tuesday evening, “No Bans No Walls: Lubbock Protest and March.”

You can find/join the event here on Facebook.

Organizers are asking fellow protesters to gather at 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 31 at the Tim Cole Memorial located at 19th and University. At 6 p.m. the protest and march will begin.

The event is being hosted by Texas Tech graduate students, Çağrı Mert Bakırcı and Ashlee Lane, who posted in the “No Bans No Walls” event page regarding Tuesday’s event stating:

“In solidarity with the 7 nations who pretty much have not caused any trouble for the past 4 decades in the USA, we will march in Lubbock to raise our voice and show Lubbock community that we will not be silenced by the extremist policies of the Trump Administration.”

In response to the event, chairman of the Lubbock Republican Party, Steve Evans, shared with EverythingLubbock the following statement:

“The No Bans No Wall Protest is likely one of many small protests we will see in President Trump’s first 100 days. The Lubbock county Republican Party respects and supports each and every person’s right to peacefully protest even though we don’t support their cause. I wish the group well and hope they will conduct themselves with dignity.”

Members of the Lubbock County Democrats shared that the reason behind the protest goes deeper than political parties, that instead “it is about humanity.”

“These things just can’t happen, this is the year 2017, and we are the United States of America. We’re better than this,” said Christina Carrizales, co-chair events committee Lubbock County Democrats, and vice-chair of Tejano Democrats of Lubbock.

“We are no better than others, and we are put here to help others so we need to treat these people.  It doesn’t matter the color of your skin where you were born. Boundaries are just that, they’re just lines in the sand. We’re all people and we need to look out for one another.”

Carrizales says she will be at Tuesday’s protest joined by other members of the Lubbock County Democrats.

Although the march will kick off Tuesday evening, organizers are inviting supporters to join them at the Texas Tech Grad Center Conference Room from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening to make posters and signs for the march.
