The Lubbock Fire Rescue Dive Team recently purchased new technology to help in dive situations.
“Seeing in a black environment is not only important, but vital, because any time you go underwater, you’re in a dangerous environment. It’s like going into a fire and smoke,” Lieutenant Matt McGinnis, a member of Lubbock Fire Rescue and Dive Team, said.
The new “Black Water Visionary Equipment” helps the divers see in dark and murky waters.
“Once you get down six inches, you can’t see anything. You could hide a car down there,” Lt. McGinnis said.
LFR said they are able to purchase all of this new technology and equipment thanks to grants they requested.
“Fortunately our fire department admin and chiefs do a great job of seeking out grant opportunities. You can’t put in for a grant unless you have something in mind that we want to get. Then they award us the grant,” Lt. McGinnis said.
