Lubbock Fire Rescue wants to remind residents to call 811 before you dig around your home.
“A lot of the hits lately have been by private contractors,” Kevin Ivy, with Lubbock Fire Rescue said.
Gas lines hit that lead to leaks can become dangerous to the public, but Ivy said West Texas wind lends a helping hand to leaks.
“The good thing here in West Texas we have some wind here. So sometimes if its coming out of the ground and its windy it’ll blow it away fast,” Ivy said.
Ivy said call 911 if you smell gas.
If you are looking to dig call 811 and Ivy said Atmos energy will come zone the area around where you are looking to dig.
