The San Antonio Fire Department held a “Walk of Honor” for member Scott Deem, who was killed in the line of duty. During the walk, several fire departments from all over the country and the state went to show their respects.
“When something like this hits this close to home, you have compassion for what the other guys in San Antonio are going through and what they’re feeling,” Steve Holland, Division Chief for Lubbock Fire Rescue said.
Lubbock Fire Rescue sent down a training suburban and Honor Guard Members to participate in the walk. Holland said they believe showing up these types of tributes is mandatory.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the brothers and sisters of the San Antonio Fire Department. Were thinking about them,” Holland said.
Holland said when deaths in the line of duty happen, it reminds their team the reality of their jobs.
“Our guys go out there and they do what they do day in and day out. We know the risks are out there, we do everything we can to reduce those risk and to be safe. It makes our guys a little more aware of just how fast circumstances can change and how we always have to be alert and ready for that,” Holland said.
