One man living in a South Lubbock neighborhood reported to Lubbock Police that his neighbor who lives across the alleyway, attached a straight pipe to his water supply. He said he noticed an extension cord running across the alley as well.
Tiffany Pelt, with the Lubbock Police Department told everythinglubbock.com that reports of meter tampering is something they see every month, but water theft is something they rarely see because it’s harder for people to maneuver.
Matt Rose, spokesperson for LP&L said they have seen utility theft take many forms, and that it’s important to file a police report if you suspect something is off.
“We have seen any number of scenarios over the years, there have been very sophisticated techniques used and very basic techniques used,” Rose said.
Lubbock Police said if someone is caught tampering with a meter, they could be charged with criminal mischief. LP&L said if you are unsure about your meter, to contact them at #806-775-2509 and have a meter reader come take a look.
