Lubbock Man Sentenced to 15 Years After TTU Student Brutally Beaten

Alfredo Mozart Lopez, 28, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault charges related to the brutal beating of a Texas Texas student in July 2015. He is one of two suspects related to this case. 

A Lubbock County District Judge sentenced Lopez to eight years for aggravated assault and 15 years for possession of a controlled substance, which will be served concurrently. 


This case started when a 24-year-old TTU student was found with severe head injuries, laying on the ground between two building at University Apartments, which is a couple of blocks from campus. 

An arrest warrant stated his injuries were so severe, that a portion of his skull was visible. 

He was transported to University Medical Center, where he later improved after surgery. No update on his case has been given since.

The warrant continued to state a blood trail led officers to a specific apartment at the complex. After collecting more evidence and interviewing people in the area, Brad Obiama Duru, 21, turned himself in that Friday. 

He was a TTU scout player for the football team in 2012, according to their website at the time. 

Shortly after, Lopez was also arrested in this case. He was found with cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana and ethyloa. 

Duru has not been sentenced yet.
