For one local family, this week mark three years since their father was gunned down in front of his own home. Since then, no arrests have been made, leaving loved ones constantly wondering why this would have happened.
On September 5, 2014 Robert Rey Ramirez was killed in a random shooting when he was outside of his central Lubbock home with his son, who survived the attack.
Witnesses have described the suspect as 5’7″ black male with shoulder length dreads driving away from the scene in a Dodge Magnum. It happened at the 1800 block of 49th street.
Ramirez’s daughter, Lexi, says he leaves behind five children and four grandchildren. She says despite all the time that has passed, she and her family refuse to give up the fight to find justice for her father.
“Every holiday, every birthday, every anniversary, I try to make the best of it so that people know what this day’s about, and what this means to us, and I’m not only doing it for my dad, I’m doing it for my brothers and my sisters,” said Ramirez. “Why would they go and take an innocent guy away from his family like that? They took the best thing that ever happened to us.”
Officials with Lubbock Police say the detective assigned to the case is still actively gathering details. The family shared that the reward in the case remains at $7,000. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crimeline at 741-1000.
