The Lubbock Police Department said they’ve increased feet on the ground patrol units in downtown Lubbock after the recent growth and expansion of the city.
Chief of Police, Greg Stevens, said the increase isn’t due to an increase in crime but an increase in foot traffic.
“We have a lot going on downtown and that’s what the city wants to see. We haven’t seen a vibrant downtown in awhile. We as a police department are trying to keep up with that,” Chief Stevens said.
Chief Stevens said they are really working on making the downtown area appealing to businesses, residential and entertainment.
“Its a myth. People think its crime riddin downtown. People think its tough. So one of our jobs is to line up perception with reality, all in effort to break that fear of crime,” Chief Stevens said.
You can expect to see patrol on foot, bike and mounted patrol.
