Late Saturday morning, Lubbock Police issued the following statement:
Investigators with the Lubbock Police Department Person Crimes Unit are investigating an aggravated assault that sent one male to the hospital with serious injuries Friday night.
At approximately 8p.m. on Friday, October 20th, LPD received multiple calls that shots had been fired in the parking lot of the Peppertree Inn Apartments located in the 5300 block of 11th Street. When officers arrived at the apartment complex, they located an individual providing first aid to a male victim who appeared to have stab or gunshot wounds.
The victim, 33-year-old Jesus Montez, was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries. As of Saturday morning, Montez is in stable condition and is expected to live.
Due to the seriousness of the injuries, investigators with the LPD Person Crimes Unit were called to the scene.
Through the initial investigation, it appears the victim got into some sort of physical altercation with three young males. At some point during the altercation, the victim was stabbed and/or shot.
The three suspects then ran from the scene. A LPD K9 unit and a crew with the DPS helicopter responded to the scene to assist in searching for the suspects, however the suspects were not located.
At this time investigators are still looking into what caused the altercation. The suspects are described as three Hispanic males possibly in their teens to mid-20s.
