As Lubbock continues to transform and grow, national organizations showed recognition by placing the Hub City within the top 100 cities for job creation in the nation.
Forbes Magazine listed Lubbock No. 9 for the Best Small Cities for Jobs. As well as, Business.com named this area as 4th best city to get a job in February 2017.
“We have our existing companies that continue to add jobs and we have new companies moving into town and adding additional jobs as well,” Lubbock Economic Development Alliance President and CEO John Osborne said. “That has been great for our local economy, you want to see both of those things happening so that you can continue to keep those graduates here in our community and continue to bring more dollars into our community.”
Osborne gave credit to small business expansion and a higher graduation rate in local high schools and universities for the growth of the Hub City.
“A variety of different salary levels,” Osborne said. “There’s job where they just need a high school degree, there’s jobs that just need a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, even a Ph.D level.”
LEDA reported “Mining, Logging, and Construction” and “Trade, Transportation, and Utilities” as the top two job industries in the area. Jobs in education and health services fall close behind.
On a national scale, Lubbock’s cost of living is 58 compared to Austin’s 160 and Dallas’ 203 rates. This area’s average home is $120,304 compared to $241,212 in Austin and $176,450 in Dallas.
