Mackenzie Park Fourth of July Setup

At Mackenzie Park where all of the Fourth of July events are going to take place tomorrow, there are many people putting all of their effort into getting the park ready.

Courtney Herron, Intern for Broadway Festivals, told us,   “We have like 300 volunteers that help her out. A lot of the sponsors send over volunteers, we really do, the City of Lubbock workers, we just, we get a lot of recognition and so we get a lot of help.”

A lot of help to make sure you can your family can come enjoy the nearly thirty vendors.

Herron explained,  “We’re going to have a fishing tournament sponsored by Cabellas and you don’t need to have a permit. There’s going to be a pet adoption. There’s going to be peddlers, like kids peddlers, doing face painting in the kids area.  There’s going to be the mechanical bull. There’s going to be a petting zoo. There’s going to be inflatables for kids to jump all over.”

All of which are free including an evening concert complete with a firework show.  Unlike other years organizers had some extra difficulties thanks to this weekend’s severe weather.  Storms not only flooded the area but broke the stage.

Herron said, “The rain definitely did put us back. We came out here on Friday, which is when we were really suppose to start gearing up and getting everything up but this entire place was a lake.  We were really stressed out.”

Despite all of the setbacks they’ve had this week with all of the rainfall, they will have everything up and running just in time for tomorrow’s events.
