LUBBOCK, Texas — Saturday, May 4, was Lubbock Lemonade Day.
Aspiring entrepreneurs learned business skills from setting up their own lemonade stands all over town. For one young businessman in particular, Trashun Thomas, he’s using the opportunity to give to the non-profit that helped him when he was fighting for his life, battling sickle cell anemia.
“Make a Wish gave me something,” Thomas said. “And I just want to give them something back.”
Thomas said six years ago, he and his family went to Disney World. He wants to raise money so other kids can live out their wishes as well.
Now in his fifth year of participating in Lemonade Day, Thomas said he has learned valuable skills that will help him fulfill his dream of opening his own business.
“Taught me about myself to never give up,” Thomas said. “Always keep your head up, and there’s light at the end of the tunnel.”
Thomas’ mom, Tyshuna Robinson, said her son’s disease is something they have to deal with every day, but she never allows it to hold him back.
“You’re not your disease,” Robinson said. “You’re more than that, and don’t let that stop you, you can be the next president of the world if you really want to, just put your heart into everything that you do.”
