Brandi Keneda and her daughter had just finished up shopping at the Dollar General off 130th and Ave T. when two young Hispanic males attempted to rob the store.

“I didn’t think it was real at first. But we got on the ground and that is when we realized they had a bat,” Keneda said.

She said the two men, both covered with red bandannas across their face, told the store clerk to open the safe. While waiting for the safe to be opened one of the men approached them.

“The one on the ground came over to me and had an open backpack. He told me to put my stuff in the bag. So I put my wallet and my phone in his backpack and I put my daughters phone in his backpack as well,” Keneda said.

Keneda said the store clerk was never able to open the safe so the two men took off out the back door of the store. She said police arrived and found her and her daughter’s phones smashed in the alleyway behind the Dollar General.

“I lost around $1,000. Our phones were around $700 to replace,” Keneda said.

We reached out to Dollar General about the incident but have yet to hear anything back.
