Neighbors in the 1600 block of 23rd Street in central Lubbock said they were woken up by gunshots early Friday morning.
“When we pulled up there was like eight to six cops out here and we were asking people what happened. This couple over here told us they heard nine gunshots and then people just started getting down,” Cordell Greve, a neighbor who lived right across from where the shooting happened said.
Police who responded to the call said they found two victims, 26-year-old Michael Dorado and Tyrek Lenard shot. Dorado was taken to University Medical Center where he later died. Police have yet to release the status on Lenard.
“We heard people coming to our door screaming ‘Tyrek has been shot!’ so we looked down here and they were on the floor trying to give him CPR,” Gabrielle Tillson, a cousin of Lenard and neighbor said.
Neighbors agreed that these types of shootings happen all too often in their neighborhood.
“There has been a whole lot of traffic. I mean there is always somebody walking through here during the middle of the night or during the day. Someone is always walking through,” Greve said.
Police are still looking for the suspect in the shooting and if you have any information you’re encouraged to call Crime Line at 806-714-1000.
