Neighbors surrounding Carlisle Park, located in Central Lubbock, are speaking out about their “neighborhood park” as being neglected.
“There is trash around here. Grass only gets cut here and there. It’s like this whole area is the forgotten area,” Lisa Garza, a neighbor of 27 years said.
Garza said the local park hasn’t changed since she raised her children there.
“My daughter grew up playing in this area since she was four year olds. Now I’m raising my grandkids and they’re still playing on the same equipment,” Garza said.
“It feels like it is getting old, it doesn’t feel that safe to play in. I don’t bring my kids over here to play. Normally we go to Maxey Park, since it’s more updated and we will drive to let them play there rather than just coming around the block to let them play. There are better options, less trash and we’re not worried about little drug paraphernalia being over there,” Marcella Lara, daughter of Garza said.
The City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department said they did submit to the city for pavilion and playground replacements, but it was turned down due to funding.
