Open Door, a local homeless outreach program has housed 23 previously homeless residents.
“There is a large part of having a home that provides love and connection during the holidays. We want them to experience that for the first time,” Katherine Hennecke, the Housing Director for Open Door said.
The organization goes above and beyond to make the holidays extra special for their residents. Hennecke said some residents haven’t been able to celebrate holiday traditions for several years.
“People were reminiscing about opening their favorite gifts. Those recently housed are excited to participate in those activities that they haven’t for the past 2 to 10 years,” Hennecke said.
