Kool Smiles’ “Operation Troop Treats” is in full effect now through Saturday, November 4 in an effort for local children to give back to U.S. troops overseas.
Operation Troop Treats started back in 2012 as way to both promote dental hygiene and show support to our servicemen and women. Children can drop by any Kool Smiles location to donate their bags of candy, and in return for every 25 pieces, they receive a toy. From there, the donated candy and dental care packages will be sent to the troops.
Kathy Ancell, area leader for Kool Smiles of Lubbock, said since the operation began, they have been able to raise more than 12,000 pounds in sweet surprises to send overseas.
“They [troops] love it, they love anything from home, we also have the kids write letters to the troops and we’ll include that. They love receiving that appreciation and that support and that we’re thinking of them,” said Ancell. “This is a win-win, both to teach about dental health and show our troops we appreciate them.”
Operation Troop Treats runs through Saturday, November 4. You and your children can donate your candy to the two Kool Smiles locations in Lubbock:
