STARCARE Specialty Health System to Collaborate with Local Artist on Overdose Awareness Collage
Lubbock County VOICES Community Coalition Asks Community to Submit Items
WHAT: Lubbock County VOICES Community Coalition (VOICES), a STARCARE Specialty Health
System (STARCARE) outreach program, encourages the community to submit items that represent a
loved one who has suffered from or lost their life to an overdose. VOICES has partnered with a local
collage artist who will utilize submitted photos, artwork, letters and newspaper articles to create an
art piece that gives a voice to people who have experienced an overdose. Submissions will be
accepted via email or in person at the drop-off location. All submissions must sign a release form or
the submission will not be accepted.
The finished art piece will be unveiled at the annual Overdose Awareness event, organized by the
VOICES Coalition in partnership with the Texas Tech University Association of Students About
Service, Sept. 5, 2019 at the Texas Tech University Center for Collegiate Recovery. The collage will
also be on display at the LHUCA Christine DeVitt Icehouse Gallery for the First Friday Art Trail

WHO: Lubbock County VOICES Community Coalition is a prevention grant through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and consists of community members who volunteer their time for meetings and events. The coalition was established for the purpose of assisting communities in
developing policies, procedures and activities to prevent youth from using alcohol, marijuana and
prescription drugs.
