State Senator Charles Perry (R) of District 28 started a petition Thursday to not allow Planned Parenthood to open again in Lubbock.
“We shouldn’t make the decision of whose life is more valuable. We don’t need it back in West Texas,” Perry said.
Lubbock previously had a Planned Parenthood facility, but it closed due to lack of funding in 2013. The senator said he heard about a month ago that money was gifted to reopen a clinic in Lubbock.
“We’ve been without Planned Parenthood in Lubbock since 2013, and we’ve been fine,” Perry said.
Miguel Levario, Democratic candidate for the Texas 19th Congressional District, said these clinics perform more than just abortions.
“Planned Parenthood provides preventative care. They provide a number of services that many people, those who are under-served. These are facilities that provide basic preventive care to help people live long, healthy lives,” Levario said.
