If you are looking forward to the reveal of Citizen’s Tower, you may be waiting a while as construction is not expected to finish until at least next year. In the meantime you can look at the updates through city hall’s webcam.

“This has been a shell of a building for a long time, and I think a lot of people are wondering what’s going on here,” said Steve Massengale, city counsel member. “We have taken it, and have started the process of moving city hall to a new building.”
Fire escapes, an elevator shaft and new glass have been added to the building recently. Mayor Dan Pope says it’s just one more way to revitalize downtown Lubbock.
“We talk a lot about making Lubbock the kind of place where people want to move to work,” said Pope. “We want employers to come here, we want millennials to stay here, and we think this will help.”
City officials also say it will make communication easier, as multiple city departments will all be under one roof.
“They will all be in this building, and so if you got a question, or a problem, you just need to come to one place to get it all done,” said Pope.
Officials say the $64 million project is still more cost effective that starting from the ground up.
“I think that if you looked at how much it would cost to have built a similar sized brand new building, and what we are spending here it would be very similiar,” said Pope. “We want to turn this iconic building into something our citizens can be proud of for years.”
