On Saturday, February 4, the Lubbock County Democrats will host a celebration at the Mae Simmons Senior center in honor of what would have been the 104th birthday of civil rights pioneer, Rosa Parks.
The event will run from 1 p.m . to 3:00 p.m. at the center, located at 2004 Oak Avenue.
Stuart Williams, chairman of the Lubbock County Democratic party, says it a community-welcome event with plenty of activities for ages young and old, as well as opportunities to join the local NAACP chapter.
Williams said the event’s special guest will be TJ Patterson, former District 2 councilman.
Rosa Parks has been commonly referred to as the “first lady of civil rights,” and “the mother of the freedom movement.”
