On the nine month anniversary of the death of 20-year-old Roy Reed, his grieving parents speak out with frustration on their son’s on-going homicide case. They argue more work could be done to find justice for Roy.
“When you lose your child, it’s hard,” Roy’s mother, Mickey Reed said. “I just want help. I just want them to do something.”
Mickey and her family are preparing their first Christmas without their son, Roy. He just turned 20 years old when he was shot and killed during a fight at Burns Park in early March. He leaves behind two children.

“Nobody should go through this, he was at the wrong place at the wrong time,” Mickey said.
His family told EverythingLubbock.com, the feud initially started with two other young men on social media. Roy got caught in the middle when he was trying to break up the fight at Burns Park.
Witnesses said a large group of people were involved in the fight, however, no arrests have been made. Nine months later, Mickey said she is frustrated with detective on their progress with her son’s case.
“I don’t feel like he did his job and it may be because he was missing some important evidence but when I asked you what type of bullet it was, you didn’t even know because you haven’t even looked,” Mickey said. “So yeah I’m mad, I’m angry.”
Throughout the process, Mickey said her family has an idea of who killed their son and want justice for his death. But added they have not heard back from law enforcement.
“My family is broken,” Mickey said. “We were too close of a family and they took somebody from us.”
“They always say call the cops, we’re there to help,” she added. “It’s been nine months and I get, ‘We’re working on it, I’ve been on vacation, other cases came up.’ Well if other cases came up and you don’t have time, I’d rather you give it somebody who could maybe have a little bit more time on it. I don’t want it to be a cold case.”
Lubbock Police told EverythingLubbock.com there are no updates in this homicide case at this time. However, they urge anyone with information to come forward. Anonymous calls can be made to Crime Line at 741-1000.
