A review by the Children’s National Health System finds almost 40 percent of parents mistakenly believe their children are unaware of where they store their household weapons.
“Put dangerous things up,” said Dr. Stan Garrett,” A lot of information out about gun safety, I think most gun owners know about putting their guns up and out of access to children, but be aware of that if you do have guns. If you have knives or any other tools or anything that may be dangerous put them up so they’re not accessible easily to the children.”
Dr. Garrett with Covenant says its also important to be aware of your children and know where they are at all times.
“Teach your children to let the parent know where they’re going to be, if they’re going to be at another house make sure there are parents there,” he said.
Its imprint because unattended children sometimes feed into each other, even dare each other and that’s when the unthinkable could happen.
“What they might not do on their own they might do things they don’t always know, they want to check it out experiment with it and sometimes it could be dangerous,” said Dr. Garrett.
