With Lubbock experiencing severe weather and high winds, LP&L said people should be prepared for power outages both Tuesday evening and during the day on Wednesday.

Matt Rose, with LP&L, said all of their crews are on standby ready to assist those who lose power due to the high winds.

“We’re gonna prepare as if we have a storm coming through that’s going to cause a lot of outages,” Rose said. “Even though we hope that’s not the case.”

Rose said if you are experiencing an outage, you can send a text or e-mail to “lightsout@lp&l.com.”

From there, Rose said customers can expect power to return within the hour.

Rose also said for those who are experiencing an outage, it is possible that there may be a broken line on or near your property which could be very dangerous.

“If you see a line that’s laying on the ground it may looks like it’s turned off it may look like it’s not energized but you don’t know that for certain so just stay away from it,” Rose said.

Clinton Thetford, the Lubbock County emergency management coordinator, said citizens’ safety is a big concern of his as well, and that’s why he has been working with first responders to prepare for the severe weather.

“Everybody is kind of on heightened awareness and heightened readiness,” Thetford said.

Thetford said communication is crucial during this time, and that people need to be situationally aware of the conditions.

“Have a plan in place of how to quickly respond whether that’s seek shelter for a severe thunderstorm,” Thetford said.
