A Friday night lights experience that will go down in Texas history. Rivaling high-schools, Idalou and Shallowater ISD both held pep rallies to get pumped up for their first game of the season, which is also the first Friday night football game to be televised.

It’s Shallowater coach Bryan Wood’s first time with the team but he says he is determined to have to have a great season. His son, Koby Woods is also new to the team, and he said he is ready to have some fun.

“It’s a big game, they’re good, we’re good, and it’s going to be on TV so how much better does it get?” Wood said.

For the pep rally, all of the younger grades piled into the gymnasium to support the team along with parents and community members. Shallowater High School principal, Tom Johnson said the energy in the town is hard to beat.

“We’ve really been looking forward to it and the school is just a buzz as well as the whole community, I’ve had people calling me asking what channel it’s going to be on,” Johnson said.

Staff and students over at Idalou High School spent the day gearing up to host a game that everyone will remember for years to come. Coach, Jeff Lofton said although it’s an exciting time their hearts are still with the folks in the southern region of the state who have been hit by Harvey.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims on the coast, with the devastation there, you know I just want our guys to play for those who can’t tonight.”
