Harvest season for cotton farmers starts in the beginning of fall leaving the vulnerability of a possible freeze to either hurt or help their crops.
“Were in over a three million acre patch of cotton. So its not all one size fits all. One grower it might not be good but for another grower it might help,” Walt Hagood, a local Cotton Farmer said.
Hagood said if a freeze were to hit it’s important that the cotton is fully matured.
“If you have mature cotton and have a frost to condition it then the freeze is welcomed because that means the less money you have to spend,” Hagood said.
He said the maturity of a farmer’s crop depends on how the weather hit it over summer.
“You have a lot of acres that had a lot of issues whether it be wind, hail or lack of moisture. So maybe they replanted and that is when the concern comes in,” Hagood said.
