With school almost out, several local students may be worried about where their next meal will be coming from.
“The reality is nearly 30,000 children in our area are food insecure. When school is out, they miss out on that meal,” Macy Lopez, the digital marketing and communications manager of the South Plains Food Bank, said.
The organization will have 30 total feeding sites that will open May 30.
“We aren’t looking for specific requirements or income levels. We’re doing this because we’re supposed to feed the kids,” Lopez said.
If you’re looking to help, Lopez said you can donate food, but money helps more when it comes to feeding the children.
“Obviously we take food donations, but we can’t serve donated food to kids. It has to make certain requirements with the state, so we purchase all that food,” Lopez said.
