LUBBOCK, Texas — Covenant Medical Center is teaming up with “Stop the Bleed” to teach the community new skills on how to stop excessive bleeding during an emergency situation.
“If you or a loved one is bleeding to death, and you have these basic skills, then you are your best shot to surviving or saving a loved one,” said Dr.Charles Bayouth, a trauma surgeon with Covenant Medical Center.
Doctors said severe injuries like this are common with car wrecks, industrial accidents, and farming accidents.
Steven Brosch, a cotton farmer, has never had to use these skills, but say with the nature of farming there is a lot of close calls.
“It’s a hazard every time you go out there,” Brosch said. “You are constantly looking and double checking that you are safe because we work with a lot of big equipment, and it’s easy to get into a really bad accident.”
