LUBBOCK, Texas — Tahoka residents cleand up downed power lines, and uprooted trees after a tornado touched down Sunday night. No injuries were reporter, but community members said the storm was unlike anything they have ever seen.
“It was unbelievable,” said Cliff Holdridge, First Baptist Church. “The clouds were so dark, and there was just a wall of sand, and that’s when we knew we were in store for something more.”
The tornado touched down for more than 20 minutes in Lynn County. Holdrige said once he saw the tornado approach, he opened the doors to the chuch and welcomed more than 50 people to their basement.
“I mean you could see the tornadoes popping up around us, and we were just sitting in the middle of all this trying our best to support one another,” Holdridge said.
While others did from the storm’s destructions, others ran towards it. Dwight Crawford raced from O’Donnel towards Tahoka to check on his wife, and two grandchildren directly in the tornado’s path.
“I called her, and she told me Dwight it sounds like a train is coming,” Crawford said. “I told her to get in that basement and under no circumstance to come out until it was safe.”
Thankfully, no on was hurt. However, a tree nearly demolished their home, and Crawford said the clean up process is just beginning.
“It was a scary situation, one that I don’t ever want to go through again,” Crawford said.”
