When someone thinks about Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, tattoos usually aren’t the first thing that comes to mind. But that’s exactly what the Head Hunters Tattoo shop is doing, one drop of ink at a time.
Jesse Whitley, the owner of Head Hunter Tattoos, designed four Texas themed tattoos all priced at $50. All proceeds from the tattoos will go to victims of Hurricane Harvey. He said he’ll split the money between the Red Cross and the SPCA.
“Seeing all the tragedy happening down there, I decided I needed to give back somehow,” said Whitley. “I’m up here tattooing. I felt like I was compelled to do it so I decided to make a deal.”
Whitley’s had hundreds of responses since posting the deal on Facebook. He’s already done 30 tattoos and has more than one hundred scheduled.
“I have a lot of friends who live down there,” he said. “It’s a part of Texas. We’re a Texas family, we take care of our own and that’s what we’re here to do.”
Many Texas natives, like Eric Hernandez, are coming in to get a permanent tribute for the South Texas victims.
“It will remind me of everything that has happened. Everything that Texas goes through that we always end up bouncing back from,” said Hernandez about his new tattoo.
And many said it was a great way to not only honor the victims, but the state they call home.
“I love Texas. I love that it’s on my body now,” said Hernandez. “I’ve been wanting it for awhile now. It felt like it was a good cause, a good spot, a good time.”
Whitley is running the special until the end of September. You can find more information on the Head Hunters Tattoo’s Facebook page.
