We recently partnered up with the South Plains Food Bank to host a donation drive for those left behind in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The South Plains Food Bank raised nearly 50,000 pounds of food and they said 27,000 pounds was brought in during our all day food drive we hosted with them.
“The food drives we’ve been having are so critical for us to make those food boxes down to the coast,” David Weaver, the CEO of South Plains Food Bank said. “We had 85 volunteers come in and build our food boxes. We’re going to finish this Saturday and get the food on down there.”
Weaver said they work with a group called Program Feeding America and they give them the destinations as to where they need to drop the food off. Weaver said all of their donations will be going to the area of Corpus Christi.
“The food bank is really about neighbors taking care of neighbors. In a disaster like this our neighbors may be 600-700 miles away,” Weaver said.
