Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a lawsuit against major opioid manufacturer Purdue Pharma.
Paxton said the company marketed prescription painkillers like OxyContin, and the company violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. Multiple states are suing Purdue Pharma.
“Purdue felt fit to destroy lives for financial gain,” Paxton said.
In 2016, 1,375 Texans died of opioid-related deaths.
Stages of Recovery, a local addiction services organization, said some pharmaceutical companies need to be held accountable.
“To some degree, pharm. companies have been doing their own thing. They don’t have a lot of regulations and oversight,” Cole Watts, co-owner and COO of Stages of Recovery, said.
Watts said they’ve seen an increase in opioid-related cases in the Hub City.
But Stages of Recovery wants the public to know they’re here to help. If you feel you’re struggling with addiction, you can contact them here.
