Students attending any public university in the state of Texas are eligible to receive a tuition rebate of $1000.
Christine Blakney, managing director of student business services at Texas Tech, said the process is very easy, and students just have to meet a few requirements.
“The tuition rebate is a state funded program that allows certain undergraduates that complete their degree without going overboard on the number of semester credit hours that they take to get a thousand dollar rebate from the state of Texas,” Blakney said.
Blakney said students cannot go more than three hours over their degree program. This means if their degree requires 120 hours, they can not exceed 123.
Blakney said students can fill out the tuition rebate form either online or in person at the Student Business Services office located in West Hall. From there, students just identify any outstanding loans and give their contact information.
“We would expect graduates to get that rebate within six months at the latest, we strive for four months,” Blakney said.
Brianna Maldonado, a Texas Tech graduate student, said she received her rebate and the process was so easy she forgot that she had even applied.
“Especially since it is such a short form it’s very convenient, vest fast, very easy,” Maldonado said. “And it can help you so much in the long term with just a thousand dollars right off with something that you filled out in less than 30 seconds.”
